Tsunami's Impressions of the Fifth HOPE

The Fifth HOPE is well underway and it's been pretty cool so far. The Hotel Pennsylvania has been a gracious host. The panels have been pretty good overall. Today I've been to Wireless and WiFi: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly which was rehashing of how insecure wireless networks are today. The next panel that we saw was Security Through Diversity which had interpretive dancing that was quite humorous. "Core-Dump." Forties and explanations of heterogenous systems providing better security were discussed. The recent DDoS attacks on Akamai was a good example of security through diversity.

Mitnick's Keynote was a crowded, hot, uncomfortable event. I'd found a great spot up front to listen to the speech but had to move back because of security and fire code reasons. In attendance were Kevin's mother and grandmother, making him the first person to bring his family along to HOPE. His speech was a retelling of the events which led to incarceration, and he had many amusing anecdotes about his exploits. I had previously read some of his book "The Art of Deception" and heard some of the same material in Mitnick's keynote speech. It was great to get someone of greater recognition and stature though, unlike H2K2 where Aaron McGruder and Jello Biafra were the keynotes.

There will be more commentary and analysis as the weekend progresses, as well as more picture updates!

  • Aaron McGruder is just a nobody trying to be somebody talking racist trash. He's stirring up sh_t just to bring attention to himself.

...Hooray!, Aaron McGruder has found his toilet mouth and can turn a head or two, just like the high-schooler in the grocery store trying to shock all the adults he can.
Grow up, and get a little more intelligent
